My Fuzzy Friend
I was mushing around in a Connecticut swamp the other day when I spotted this little guy. I call him Fuzzy the caterpillar. He was a challenge to photograph at close range because he would not follow my instructions and pose for me like a good little caterpillar. Nevertheless, here he, or she is in all nature's glory. I hope you enjoy My Fuzzy Friend as much as I do!

Stark contrast View From My Deck
There is a view from my deck in the fall just below this photo. This is the view for most of the winter. One thing about New England is that you can certainly and clearly define the seasonal changes. We found an all brown wooley winter caterpiller yesterday in the garden, and he told me that it will be a mild winter this year in Rhode Island -- he knows more than the weather man for sure!
You know who the weatherman is? He's the guy that predicted wind driven rain for last Saturday (Labor Day weekend so my friend cancelled the pig roast),and the wind driven rain didn't happen! The local TV station has five high paid weather people to read the local weather ticker and they still can't get it right!
What a waste of money! No wonder their advertising rates are so expensive!

The View From my Deck
It's coming up on that time of year here again in New England -- Fall, the photographers dream weeks. Mid September until Columbus Day, that is the short window of opportunity. Sometims I think that it was the brilliant Fall colors that turned me on to photography. Get out there, and take a walk on a sunlit day, and then you tell me is this is all an accident! Think about it.

Distant Cousin
The End of An Era
One afternoon I was walking along the
Blackstone Canal When I came upon a little
bridge and crossed to the other side of the river.
The path led up to the railroad and I came upon this crossing. When I turned to my right and looked down the empty tracks it put a whole segment of my life into focus. The abondoned factory, the seldom used tracks and the row of mill houses along those tracks.
My roots go back to a family of mill workers including myself. I went to work in a mill when I was fourteen to help my parents out financially. It was a good experience for me because I made up my mind that day a long time ago that I did not want to work in a mill the rest of my life -- I wanted to own it! It was a dark day when I entered that mill but I have turned it into a positive experiece. Always try to look at the bright side of life!

Sisters in The Garden
One Saturday my wife and I were driving around Danielson, Connecticut when we spotted a beautiful Rose Garden. Of course, we had to get out to smell the flowers (very important) ,and I had to take my usual photos. All of a sudden a wedding party drove up and began to set up for the
wedding photos. I saw the two little sisters stop for a moment to contemplate some beautiful yellow roses and I instinctively snapped the shutter.
Personally, I love the shot of this
intimate moment between the two of them. I didn't have a release so I made an Impressionist photo painting out of it.
I call it "Sisters In the Garden." I hope you enjoy it.

Lady Snapper
I stepped out the door one morning about three months ago and caught this shot of one of my yearly visitors. They have been coming to visit our gardens for the past seventy-five years. They love to lay their eggs in a sunny spot in the soft sand surrounding the gardens. When the eggs hatch I gather up the babies and carry them down to the lake to release them. Some folks don't care for snapping turtles but I always say that everyone has to make a living -- even the lonely, lowly snapper.

Welcome to my Photo Blog page. When I get free time from running one of my several companies I enjoy both hiking and biking around the woodland in the Eastern USA. I have been fortunate to be able to own several types of cameras both still and video and I really like to make photos and even to play with them digitally. I have been making photos since 1940 when my late Mother encouraged me to do so. It is a great escape hatch from the pressures of running businesses etc., and I rate it right up there along with the afternoon nap, and getting lots of fresh air and exercise. I hope you will enjoy my efforts
Sincerely,
Walt Barrett
